Kentucky Quarter The Kentucky quarter, the 5th and last quarter in the 2001 series, features the Federal Hill mansion where Stephen Foster wrote the state song "My Old Kentucky Home", also inscribed on the coin.

A racehorse, positioned behind a fence in the foreground of the quarter, represents the longest annual horse race in the country, the Kentucky Derby. Kentucky is also well known as the Bluegrass country, and is home to some of the world's finest race horses.

Kentucky was the first state of the western frontier to join the union and is one of four states that calls itself a "commonwealth".
