Travel Information

Worthy attractions include the shiny-clean city of Oslo, as well as Grimstad, Stavanger and other southern coastal communities, the picture-postcard cities of Alesund, Bergen and Trondheim, the Lofoton Islands, the Northern Lights, and all of the friendly towns and wild landscapes above the Arctic Circle.

In addition, museums filled with modern art and Viking history, glacier tours, national parks and winter sports of all description will tempt most any traveler.

And then (we must) recommend a rewarding visit to any of Norway's western fjords, especially Geirangerfjord Hardangerfjord, or Lysefjord.

Note: Norway is pricey and advance planning is recommended, especially for family vacations. For travel tips, city details, major attractions and points-of-interest, follow the links below.

Note: Instead of traveling with your own country's currency and then paying the expensive cash conversion rates - to get the best exchange rate - we suggest you use an ATM for cash, and a credit card for purchases.

Though relatively cool from summer to early fall, conditions are very pleasant then with average high temps in the 60's. Summer highs in the mid 70's are a regular occurrence in the south.

Although coastal areas remain mild in winter and fjord water's never freeze, the upper elevations in central Norway, and areas north of the Arctic Circle experience much colder conditions. Note that wild fluctuations in winter highs and lows are common.

Rainfall amounts are the heaviest along the western coastal areas in fall and early winter, with much less precipitation inland. Winter snowfall can be heavy in the central and northern mountains and many are snow-capped throughout the year.

Above the Arctic Circle in the far north, the summer sun never completely sets, thus the phrase, "Norway, Land of the Midnight Sun." Winter days across most of Norway are much shorter, and available daylight is certainly muted and less intense.

Even though crowds can be large and attraction lines long, especially in Oslo, most travelers seem to agree that May through mid-September are the best months to visit Norway.
![]() ![]() VISAS
![]() ![]()
For stays longer than six months regarding employment, study or tourism, a visa is required and must be obtained in advance. For additional information please contact the Norwegian Consulate with jurisdiction over your country of residence.
