across Europe.... ![]() Across the entire European continent Standard Time is now in effect. ![]() Daylight Saving Time (or summertime as it is called in many countries) begins again on March 29, 2009, then returns to standard time in the fall of 2009. ![]() For all countries, dependencies, islands and states in continental Europe, their current UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is displayed below this map. ![]() For European countries, time zones (or times) are expressed as offsets from UTC in Greenwich, England, the starting time zone for worldwide time. ![]() Notes: ![]() Iceland does not use Daylight Saving Time and remains on UTC Time throughout the year. ![]() The local time in the United Kingdom (UK) in winter is still called GMT, and is based upon the current UTC time at Greenwich, England. In summer however, the UK is not on GMT, but one hour ahead on British Summer Time, or Daylight Saving Time. ![]() The massive country of Russia is stretched across eleven times zones, more than any other country. On this map page we display the current time for European Russia, or Moscow Time. |

an update.... ![]() The worldwide standard for coordinated universal time, formerly known as GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), is now abbreviated as UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). ![]() Some sources still refer to it as UTC/GMT and some web browsers, I.E. Mozilla, still display it as GMT. ![]() The UTC Time (shown directly below) is the standard time zone from which all other worldwide time zones are based upon. It never observes daylight saving time. ![]() ![]() |
